Depression is often hidden behind a smile. Through the Modern Looking Glass explores the different forms and causes of depression and how those feelings can be exacerbated by social media. The ensemble cast know one another only through social media connections and compare their real lives to the posts of those they follow. To one another, those characters look like they have it all, but they are all actually struggling with issues of their own. Things are not always as they appear.
Through the Modern Looking Glass and an alternative shorter version of the film called Beautiful Catastrophe have been showcased at 25 leading film festivals across the US and Europe, including at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood and The Tribeca Screening Room, and have won numerous awards including Best Short Film, Best African American Filmmaker, Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Ensemble Cast among others. And is currently adapting into a feature film that is expected to be completed in 2025. |
